VIDEO: Manhole cover theft in Russeifa sparks public safety concerns

A surveillance camera in the Russeifa district of Zarqa Governorate captured footage of two unidentified young men stealing a manhole cover on the first day of the new year.

The video shows the duo lifting the cover and placing it into a cart, presumably to sell it later as scrap.

Roya could not confirm whether authorities had arrested the suspects.

This theft poses serious risks to public safety. Exposed manholes endanger pedestrians, especially children, who could fall into sewage lines, and vehicles, which could sustain severe damage if tires slip into the opening.

With winter underway, reduced visibility further increases the risk for pedestrians, making it harder to spot uncovered manholes.
