Four Lebanese soldiers injured in clashes on Syrian border
Lebanese Army announced Friday that four of its soldiers sustained moderate injuries during renewed clashes with Syrian gunmen near the Lebanese-Syrian border in the Maaraboun area of Baalbek.
A statement released by the Lebanese Army Command said that the incident occurred when a Lebanese military unit was closing an illegal border crossing. Syrian individuals reportedly attempted to reopen the crossing using a bulldozer, prompting Lebanese forces to fire warning shots into the air.
However, the Syrians responded with gunfire, injuring one soldier and sparking an exchange of fire between the two sides, according to the statement.
The statement added that army units in the area have since implemented strict security measures and are closely monitoring the situation.
