New Orleans attack claims life of Palestinian-American teenager
On Wednesday, 18-year-old Palestinian-American Kareem Badawi was killed during an attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. The incident has claimed the lives of at least 15 individuals.
Kareem's father, Belal Badawi, shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook, expressing his deep sorrow. “With great sadness and sorrow and with hearts content with God’s will and destiny, I announce the news of the death of my son, Kareem Belal Badawi, who passed away early this morning as a result of the tragic incident in New Orleans. We ask God to have mercy on Kareem and grant us patience and strength to overcome this noble affliction,” he wrote.
Kareem was a 2024 graduate of the Episcopal School of Baton Rouge, he had just completed his first semester at the University of Alabama.
Stuart R. Bell, the president of the University of Alabama, eulogized Kareem in a statement, "I learned today that Kareem Badawi, one of our students at The University of Alabama, was killed in the terrorist attack in New Orleans. I grieve alongside family and friends of Kareem in their heartbreaking loss."
