Major General Mahmoud Salah
Israeli Occupation assassinates Gaza police chiefs
The Ministry of Interior in the Gaza Strip announced on Thursday that the Israeli Occupation assassinated Major General Mahmoud Salah, the Director General of Police in the region, and Major General Hussam Shahwan, a member of the Police Leadership Council.
This attack occurred during an airstrike that targeted them while they were carrying out their national and humanitarian duties in Khan Yunis, resulting in the martyrdom of several civilians, according to a statement from the Ministry of Interior.
The ministry condemned the targeting of the police force, which is tasked with providing services and protecting civilians amid ongoing Israeli Occupation aggression for the past 15 months. It stated that this reflects the occupation's intent to instigate chaos and exacerbate humanitarian suffering in the Gaza Strip, disregarding all international and humanitarian laws.
The ministry highlighted Major General Salah's dedication to his people, noting that he had devoted 30 years to the Palestinian police. During his tenure, he made significant contributions to enhancing security and stability in Gaza, progressing through various roles until he became the police chief six years ago. He was recognized for his professionalism and extensive connections within Palestinian society.
Additionally, the ministry commended Major General Hussam Shahwan, who served the Palestinian people for many years through the police force, emphasizing that he was deeply embedded in the community of countless officers who were targeted by the occupation while fulfilling their duties amid the ongoing aggression in Gaza.
