Jordan braces for cold with scattered rain showers through Tuesday
Jordan is under the influence of a distant low-pressure system accompanied by a cold air mass, expected to persist until Tuesday evening – said ArabiaWeather’s forecasts.
This system is bringing cooler temperatures, creating chilly conditions with intermittent rainfall, particularly in northern regions.
Saturday night into Sunday
Temperatures will drop significantly overnight, with cold weather prevailing across most regions and very cold conditions in southern deserts and the Sharah Mountains.
Scattered rain showers are anticipated in the north, while frost formation is possible in southern deserts and the Sharah Mountains. Winds will be light to moderate, blowing from the southwest.
Sunday
Rainfall chances decrease during the day, but cold conditions persist. Temperatures will remain below seasonal averages, with highs in Amman reaching approximately 12°C. Clouds will dominate skies in northern and central regions, with light rain expected in the far north.
Rainfall will likely pick up again overnight, particularly in northern and central areas, as the low-pressure system edges closer.
Monday and Tuesday
The low-pressure system will intensify its impact on Monday, bringing heavy rain to northern regions and potentially extending to central areas, accompanied by hailstorms in some parts.
By nightfall, rainfall is expected to spread to wider regions, especially central Jordan, including Karak, after midnight. Fog formation is likely over high-altitude areas due to cold conditions.
Tuesday’s weather will see rainfall shifting southward, with possible light snow or sleet over the Sharah Mountains. Rainfall in other areas will diminish, leaving a limited chance for precipitation.
New Year's Eve weather outlook
As the year draws to a close, temperatures will plunge, nearing freezing in several regions. Precipitation will taper off, but frost and dense fog are expected to develop, creating bitterly cold conditions, especially in elevated and desert areas.
Gaza Strip forecast
The low-pressure system will also affect Gaza, bringing cold and rainy weather over the weekend. From Sunday night through Tuesday, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected, which could lead to localized flooding in some areas.
Residents across Jordan and Gaza are advised to prepare for harsh winter weather conditions, especially in vulnerable regions.
