VIDEO: Audience flees in panic as lions defy trainer during circus performance
A Christmas circus performance in Licola, Naples, sparked controversy showing alleged mistreatment of lions. A complaint, supported by a video, was made by Avs deputy Francesco Emilio Borrelli and animal rights activist Enrico Rizzi.
"Some lions rebelled and were struck on the head with platforms, and whipped again," said Rizzi. "Animals were humiliated, whipped, and exploited, while citizens were put in danger. This shame must end."
Borrelli added, "One lion jumped and caused the metal cage door to swing, creating panic among the audience. Some spectators in the front rows fled in fear, abandoning the show."
The circus denied the accusations, saying that the lions were involved in a fight over a female.
The incident has sparked controversy online, and a protest is planned for December 27 outside the venue.
