Jordan, represented by a delegation led by Bassam Maharmeh, President of Jordan’s National Cyber Security Center (NCSC), participated in the inaugural session of the Arab Cyber Security Ministers Council, which took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

During the meeting, attended by cybersecurity officials from Arab League member states and the League’s Secretary-General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Maharmeh emphasized the significance of establishing the council at this critical time, highlighting the need for enhanced cooperation to address the escalating cybersecurity threats faced by Arab nations.

He noted that both local and international security reports indicate a rising trend in cyberattacks targeting Arab countries, particularly in light of the rapid digital transformation and the increasing role of the digital economy in the region's overall economic landscape.

Maharmeh urged Arab countries to strengthen collaboration to improve their cybersecurity readiness, mitigate the impact of cyberattacks, and hold accountable those responsible for such incidents.

He also stressed the importance of adopting unified Arab strategies and policies to combat the misuse of information and privacy violations perpetrated by some major global technology firms.

The meeting addressed several key topics aimed at bolstering Arab cybersecurity cooperation, including the development of a unified Arab cybersecurity strategy, the implementation of joint cybersecurity exercises, and the exchange of working papers among member states to support regional efforts in safeguarding Arab cybersecurity.
