Man sentenced to 20 years in prison for killing cousin
The Grand Criminal Court sentenced a doctor to 20 years in prison after finding him guilty of stabbing his cousin to death, in conjunction with his underage brother, who is facing trial in a juvenile court on the same charges.
The ruling was delivered during a public session, where the defendant was convicted of premeditated murder by complicity, under Articles 326 and 76 of the Penal Code.
Details of the incident, which occurred in June, revealed that the defendant invited the victim to his family home to celebrate the Eid Al-Adha holiday after returning from Britain. On the day of the crime, a disagreement arose when the victim expressed his desire to return home. The defendant, however, insisted that he wait for his father to return and take him.
The argument escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the defendant retrieved a kitchen knife and stabbed his cousin multiple times. He also instructed his underage brother to bring another knife and attack the victim, which the brother complied with.
According to the court's findings, the victim attempted to defend himself, resulting in minor injuries to the defendant during the struggle. After the victim was stabbed in the neck, the defendant and his brother fled the scene, while the victim locked the door behind him, trying to staunch the bleeding with a towel and a shirt.
The police arrested the defendant and his brother, but the victim succumbed to his injuries while efforts were made to save him. The autopsy report indicated that the victim had sustained multiple stab and cut wounds, which were determined to be the direct cause of death.
