16-12-2024 18:01|The Tripartite Committee for Labor Affairs, chaired by Minister of Labor Dr. Khaled Al-Bakar, announced on Monday its unanimous decision to raise the minimum wage for private-sector employees in Jordan from JD 260 to JD 290 per month.
The new wage will take effect on January 1, 2025, and remain valid through December 31, 2027.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Labor, the decision balances workers' rights to better wages with the economic circumstances of employers.
The committee’s authority to determine minimum wages is outlined in Article 52 of Labor Law No. 8 of 1996 and its amendments.
Key Details of the Decision:
- Applicability: The minimum wage of JD 290 applies to all workers covered by the Labor Law, regardless of how their wages are paid, starting January 1, 2025.
- Wage calculation: For employees earning wages on a daily, weekly, or hourly basis, the minimum wage will be calculated by dividing the monthly minimum wage by 30 days.
- Training wages: Trainees will receive wages no less than the minimum wage during the final stage of their training. This stage is defined by the Vocational Training Corporation's regulations under Article 37 of the Labor Law.
- Wage components: The minimum wage includes all entitlements received in cash or kind, excluding payments for overtime work.
