Human Rights Watch urges Syrian opposition to ensure humane treatment
Human Rights Watch (HRW) on Monday called on opposition factions in Syria to guarantee humane treatment for all individuals, including former government officials, following the announcement of the fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s regime and his reported escape to Russia.
Lama Fakih, HRW's Middle East director, stated in a press release: "The fall of Bashar al-Assad's government offers Syrians an unprecedented opportunity to shape a new future founded on justice, accountability, and respect for human rights."
Fakih emphasized that opposition armed groups must "ensure humane treatment for all individuals, including former officials, government soldiers, pro-government fighters, and loyalists."
