UN Secretary-General calls for unity in Syria after regime fall
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, issued a statement addressing Syria's current state following 14 years of war and the collapse of the Assad regime.
He emphasized that this moment presents an opportunity for the Syrian people to forge a future defined by peace and stability.
The Secretary-General underlined that the future of Syria must be determined by Syrians themselves. To this end, his Special Envoy will engage with stakeholders in Syria to facilitate a political transition that upholds the rights of all citizens.

Acknowledging the challenges ahead, the Secretary-General called for calm and urged all parties to avoid violence during this critical period. He stressed the importance of protecting the rights of all Syrians, regardless of their background, and respecting diplomatic and consular premises, in accordance with international law.
The Secretary-General called on the international community to support an inclusive and comprehensive transition, ensuring that it addresses the aspirations of all Syrians in their diversity. He also highlighted the importance of restoring Syria’s sovereignty, unity, independence, and territorial integrity.
The United Nations said it remains committed to honoring the memory of those who have suffered during the conflict and to assisting Syrians in building a nation grounded in reconciliation, justice, freedom, and prosperity. The Secretary-General concluded by reaffirming that these principles are essential to achieving lasting peace in Syria.
