Once again, US vetoes UN resolution calling for Gaza ceasefire
The US once again blocked a draft resolution at the UN Security Council on Wednesday, using its veto power to halt a proposal calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The resolution was introduced by the 10 non-permanent members of the council.
The draft, which gained the support of all other Security Council members, sought to address the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza. It called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, the release of detainees, the exchange of Palestinian prisoners, and the complete withdrawal of Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) from the region.
Despite broad backing, the US veto effectively quashed the initiative. Washington’s stance has been a focal point of international criticism as calls for a ceasefire and humanitarian relief continue to mount.
