Biden: Recent developments in Syria open doors for Middle East
US President Joe Biden described the overthrow of Bashar Al-Assad's regime as a historic moment and an opportunity for the Syrian people to build a more peaceful and stable future.
Biden noted that Russia, Iran, and Hezbollah failed to protect the Assad regime, adding that Iran's attempts to support him through its proxies have been unsuccessful, emphasizing that what happened in Syria represents an opportunity for the Middle East.
He stressed that his administration has imposed sanctions on Assad over the past years due to his refusal to engage in a serious political process and his continued commission of crimes against the Syrian people.
Biden affirmed that the US will work with all concerned parties to seize this historic opportunity to establish peace, emphasizing that the US will collaborate with Syrian groups to establish a transitional phase.
He also pointed out that the US will not allow Daesh to rebuild its capabilities in Syria or the region.
