Over 300 killed from armed factions in Syrian army ambush
A field source in Hama province reported that the battle of Jabal Zayn Al-Abidin between the Syrian army and attacking groups was the largest to date, RT reported.
In press remarks on Thursday, the source noted that the armed factions suffered significant casualties and that those who remained withdrew from the area.
This attack was the most extensive against Syrian army positions in Hama since the assault began a few days ago, with both drones and various types of weaponry being utilized.
The fighting lasted from the evening until dawn on Thursday, resulting in numerous fatalities among the attackers.
The source indicated that an Al-Qaeda affiliate group in Syria constituted the main faction among the attacking groups.
In related news, the Russian news agency Sputnik reported that the Syrian army had successfully lured the Al-Qaeda affiliate group into an ambush in Jabal Zayn Al-Abidin, inflicting heavy losses in personnel and equipment.
Following the prolonged clashes, a degree of calm returned to the area after the remaining attackers retreated.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed that the battle of Jabal Zayn Al-Abidin ended in favor of the Syrian army.
Field sources in Hama also reported that the death toll among the armed factions in the army's ambush exceeded 300.
