The 20th Jordanian House of Representatives convened today to hear the policy statement of Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan's government, in accordance with Article 53 of the Constitution.

The session, held Sunday, marks the start of discussions leading to a vote of confidence, as stipulated by Article 53 and Clause 4 of Article 84 of the Constitution, along with Clause 2 of Paragraph A of Article 86 of the House's internal regulations.

Parliamentary Debate and Vote of Confidence

The parliamentary debate on the government’s policy statement will commence tomorrow, continuing until all blocs and individual MPs have spoken. The vote of confidence will follow the conclusion of these discussions.

At the session's opening, Speaker Ahmad Safadi called for members of the House and government to recite Al-Fatiha in honor of former Prime Minister Wasfi Al-Tal, marking the 53rd anniversary of his assassination last Thursday.

Prime Minister's Vision and Commitments

Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan emphasized that under King Abdullah II's guidance, loyalty to Jordan is rooted in dedication and seriousness in work, aimed at advancing the nation’s interests.

Hassan outlined the government's core objectives:

  • Political Reform: Strengthening the role of Parliament, political parties, and their members in public life to enhance democratic processes and political participation.
  • Economic and Social Development: Expanding opportunities and resources for Jordanians, creating an environment conducive to improved living standards and comprehensive development.
  • National Resilience: Ensuring Jordan remains a robust and steadfast nation, capable of overcoming challenges with determination and unity.

Hassan highlighted Jordan’s legacy as a resilient nation, passed down through generations, and reiterated its pivotal role in regional stability.

Stance on Palestine and Freedoms

Reaffirming Jordan's unwavering support for Palestine, Hassan declared:

  • The forced displacement of Palestinians is a "red line."
  • Jordan stands firmly against any proposals undermining Palestinian identity.
  • Jordan will never be a substitute homeland for any party.

He stressed Jordan’s commitment to mobilizing international support for the Palestinian cause, viewing it as central to the Arab world and advocating for a just, comprehensive solution that ends the occupation and establishes peace.

Regarding freedoms, Hassan stated that public freedoms in Jordan are constitutionally protected, ensuring a balance between liberty and responsibility while safeguarding both public and private rights.

This policy statement sets the tone for the government’s agenda, with the upcoming debates and vote determining the level of parliamentary support for its vision and priorities.
