Iran condemns attack on consulate in Aleppo by armed factions
Iranian Foreign Ministry on Saturday condemned an attack on its consulate in Aleppo, Syria, carried out by armed factions controlling the city.
Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei described the attack as "aggression by terrorist elements" amid the armed groups’ advances in the area. Baghaei confirmed that the consul general and all consulate staff in Aleppo were unharmed.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is set to arrive in Damascus on Sunday for talks with Syrian authorities before traveling to Turkey for consultations on regional developments.
In a phone call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Araghchi expressed Iran’s concerns over the attacks by armed factions in Syria, describing them as part of a "US-Israeli plan to destabilize the region."
Lavrov shared his "serious concern" over the escalation in Syria, calling the attacks in Aleppo and Idlib "terrorist actions." Both ministers agreed on the need to intensify joint efforts to stabilize the situation in Syria.
