Four tons of counterfeit cosmetics seized in Amman
A joint operation led by the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) and the Royal Department for Environment Protection uncovered an illegal home-based cosmetics manufacturing operation in Amman.
The raid exposed a facility producing counterfeit beauty products in unsanitary conditions.
Dr. Nizar Mahmoud Mhaidat, Director Manager of the JFDA, confirmed in a press statement that approximately four tons of counterfeit cosmetics were seized. The products, including moisturizing creams, sunscreens, and deodorants, were found to bear the names of well-known global brands, raising concerns over their safety and authenticity.
Following an extensive investigation, the inspection team traced the products to ten storage warehouses, where they had been stored before they could be distributed to markets across the region. This discovery was the culmination of several days of focused monitoring and oversight by the JFDA.
The counterfeit goods were confiscated and are set to be disposed of in accordance with regulatory procedures. Legal actions are now underway to hold those responsible accountable, with Mahiedat stressing that the JFDA remains committed to cracking down on such illegal operations. He further emphasized that the administration would continue its rigorous enforcement efforts and impose the most stringent penalties on anyone caught engaging in such violations.
