The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates strongly condemned the recent inflammatory and racist statements made by Bezalel Smotrich, a far-right minister in the “Israeli” government, who called for Tel Aviv’s imposition of sovereignty over the occupied West Bank, as well as the construction and expansion of “Israeli” settlements.

Jordan said in a statement that it views these statements as blatant violations of international law and an infringement on the Palestinian people's inalienable right to establish an independent state based on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Ambassador Dr. Sufyan Qudah, reiterated Jordan's categorical rejection and denunciation of these incitements.

He emphasized that “Israel” has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories, underscoring that such illegal actions and rhetoric constitute serious breaches of international law and UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334.

This resolution denounces any efforts to alter the demographic makeup, character, or status of the occupied Palestinian territories since 1967, including East Jerusalem, and affirms that all “Israeli” settlement activities in these areas are illegal.

Qudah also called on the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities by pressuring “Israel” and its hardline government to cease aggression in Gaza and Lebanon, de-escalate the worsening situation in the West Bank, and ensure necessary protection for the Palestinian people.

He reiterated the urgent need to support the Palestinian people’s legitimate right to establish a sovereign, independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
