In a heroic effort, Spanish teacher Daniel Burguet saved a group of children from floodwaters that engulfed their school in Paiporta, Valencia.

He was with two teachers, his daughter, and three other children when the floods hit, shattering a front window and flooding the school. Burguet told local media that he and the adults lifted the children onto tables but feared the water would keep rising.

"Once we had let all the water in, when the current stopped we decided to open the door and what I did was go outside to see where to leave the kids," he said, adding that he broke a nearby glass door with a table leg, allowing the children to escape. Carrying each one to safety, he shared that his sole focus was on survival and saving the children.

The flooding, one of the deadliest in the region, has resulted in over 200 deaths, with fears it may increase as around 2,000 people remain missing.

During a recent visit, King Felipe faced public anger, with locals expressing frustration over the government’s response. Rescue operations continue as rain warnings remain in effect.
