Civil defense teams rescue girl, recover deceased child from floodwaters in Balqa

Civil Defense teams in the Balqa Governorate addressed a tragic incident today involving a girl and a child who were swept away by floodwaters. The teams successfully rescued the girl, while the child was found deceased following a search operation that extended over 7km.

According to the spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate (PSD), the incident occurred when both individuals were near floodwaters created by heavy rainfall in a valley, which typically carry mud and debris.

The spokesperson highlighted that the rapid response to the emergency call was crucial in rescuing the girl, who is in moderate condition. She received medical attention on-site before being transported to a hospital for further care. Meanwhile, rescue and dive teams continued their efforts to locate the child, who was later discovered deceased.

The PSD urged the public to exercise caution during periods of unstable weather, advising against approaching flood channels and valleys or attempting to cross them. They emphasized the importance of following safety guidelines due to the inherent dangers of such areas, especially for those who may be tempted to get closer for photography or out of curiosity.

Additionally, the Directorate advised the public to quickly seek assistance by calling the emergency hotline (911) and to refrain from making impulsive decisions to rescue drowning individuals without proper knowledge of rescue techniques, as this can lead to additional risks.

They expressed condolences for the deceased child and wished for a swift recovery for the injured girl.
