VIDEO - Lightning strikes football pitch in Peru: One dead, several injured

In a regional football tournament in Peru, lightning struck a pitch in Peru killing one and injuring four others.

The game was between Juventud Bellavista and Familia Chocca, during which a severe thunderstorm began in the first half.

The referee stopped the match. However, the players couldn’t leave before the lightning struck.

39-year-old Jose Hugo De la Cruz Meza died on the spot after collapsing face-first onto the ground.

Four other players sustained injuries; three are stable and one –goalkeeper– is hospitalized with severe burns.
