Thief takes joyride: Rents car, fails to return it for six years!
First Instance Court of Amman has sentenced a man to six years of hard labor for illegally obtaining a vehicle after renting it using another person's civil ID.
The court convicted the defendant of unlawfully seizing a vehicle under the provisions of Article 405 of the Penal Code.
The court established that the defendant impersonated a witness in the case against him and signed a rental contract for the vehicle, valued at JD 25,000, which belonged to the complainant. After taking possession of the vehicle, he failed to return it.
The court's ruling highlighted that the defendant's actions, which included unlawfully seizing the complainant's vehicle and impersonating another individual to facilitate the theft, constituted all the elements of the crime charged against him according to proper legal application.
