Weather advisory issued for Friday
Latest weather maps indicate that Jordan will continue to experience cold weather tonight and over the weekend due to an extension of a cold air mass positioned to the east of the region. This will affect the country in the form of a cold and dry air mass – per ArabiaWeather’s forecasts.
Over the past few days, Jordan has experienced unusually low temperatures, with the minimum temperature in the capital, Amman, reaching 8.4°C early Thursday morning. This is the lowest temperature recorded for this time of year in 21 years, measured at Amman Civil Airport in Marka.
The country will remain under the influence of this cold air mass on Friday, keeping the weather cool and dry during the day. A weak extension of the Red Sea trough is expected to push in, causing strong easterly winds during daylight hours.
Weather maps indicate significant wind activity, with easterly gusts potentially exceeding 100 km/h in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and low-lying areas. Due to the altitude drop from the western mountains to the valley, the winds are expected to intensify, posing a risk to those in these areas on Friday.
ArabiaWeather has warned of reduced visibility due to strong winds, particularly in desert areas, and advised caution.
Key Weather Recommendations:
- Avoid swimming in the Dead Sea.
- Respiratory and eye patients should be cautious of dusty conditions.
- Exercise caution while driving in desert areas due to dust.
- Be mindful of strong winds in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and surrounding areas.
- Secure plastic greenhouses to prevent damage.
