Public Security Directorate denies allegations of mistreatment by detainee
The Public Security Directorate (PSD) announced that an internal investigation found no evidence to support claims made by a detainee who alleged mistreatment while held at a rehabilitation center.
According to the PSD's spokesperson, the investigation was initiated after the individual reported being detained by the public prosecutor based on a complaint from another citizen. He claimed he was stripped of his clothing and faced other abuses during his time at the rehabilitation center.
However, after reviewing surveillance footage and other evidence, the investigative body determined that these claims were completely unfounded.
The allegations were made by an individual who used a radio platform to describe himself as an activist and a former candidate with no prior legal issues.
The spokesperson revealed that the individual had a history of ten prior offenses, including assault, disturbing the peace, threats, and defamation. He was admitted to the rehabilitation center on charges of assault following a public prosecutor's order dated Oct. 3, 2024, and was released on Oct. 8, 2024. All procedures conducted during his detention were confirmed to comply with the legal framework governing rehabilitation centers.
The spokesperson emphasized that the detainee's accusations appeared to be an attempt to undermine the reputation of the PSD and its rehabilitation centers. He stated that the individual was treated professionally throughout his time in custody, a fact corroborated by video evidence and witness testimonies.
The spokesperson urged media outlets to ensure accuracy in their reporting and not to allow individuals to exploit media platforms to spread false allegations against national institutions and security forces, who work tirelessly to maintain the country’s security and serve its citizens.
