Lebanese Prime Minister backs Macron amid Netanyahu's criticism
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati voiced his support for French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday following "Israeli" Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's recent criticism.
On Saturday, Netanyahu condemned Macron's call for an end to arms deliveries to "Israel" for the ongoing war in Gaza, emphasizing the need for a political solution rather than a continuation of hostilities.
Mikati highlighted that Macron's plea affirms the validity of France's stance on the issue. He underscored Macron's commitment to Lebanon, expressing solidarity with the Lebanese people as they navigate their current challenges.
Mikati pointed to Macron's announcement of an upcoming international conference in France aimed at supporting Lebanon as a testament to this commitment. He noted that such actions demonstrate Macron's dedication to the noble values of justice and peace.
Additionally, Mikati reiterated his backing for a joint appeal made by France and the US, with support from the European Union and various Arab and foreign nations. This call urges the international community to pressure "Israel" to comply with a ceasefire and promptly implement United Nations Resolution 1701.
