Jordan prepares to send field maternity, neonatal hospital to Khan Younis
Royal Medical Services announced on Thursday that preparations have been completed for a maternity and neonatal hospital to be sent to Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip, addressing the urgent needs of residents amid challenging conditions.
During a press conference, the Director General of the Royal Medical Services stated, “Under the directive of His Majesty the King and with direct supervision from the Jordanian Armed Forces, this field hospital has been established at Al-Hussein Medical City in cooperation with the Pious Projects of America. It will be part of the Jordanian field hospital in Khan Younis, making it the first of its kind in the world.”
The hospital will be dispatched in four phases and will include an operating room, four delivery rooms for both normal and complicated births, five recovery beds, thirty post-delivery beds, and ten incubators for the neonatal unit. It will also be equipped with necessary supplies, including bedding and feeding units, along with a solar power system to ensure functionality during power outages. The facility will be staffed by 82 specialized personnel and nurses, 55 of whom are women from the Royal Medical Services.
The Director General further explained that collaboration is ongoing with all relevant parties from the Jordanian Armed Forces and other authorities in Gaza to prepare the final location next to the Jordanian field hospital in Khan Younis. The hospital is expected to be ready to receive patients by mid-November 2024.
This initiative comes less than a month after the launch of the "Restoring Hope" initiative to provide prosthetic limbs to amputees in Gaza. Another field hospital was sent to Khan Younis and Nablus during the recent conflict, continuing Jordan's ongoing efforts to support Palestinian brothers in Gaza and the West Bank.
