Hezbollah’s deputy leader gives first address since Nasrallah’s killing
Sheikh Naim Qassem, the deputy Secretary-General of Lebanese group Hezbollah, delivered the first televised speech since the “Israeli” strike that killed former leader Hassan Nasrallah, along with other top commanders in Beirut’s Southern Suburbs on Friday.
Qassem responded to recent “Israeli” claims, stating that contrary to reports, there was no meeting of 20 Hezbollah leaders when the airstrike occurred.
He said the meeting included Nasrallah with four others including an Iranian commander, confirming that all were killed.
He also condemned “Israel” for committing massacres across Lebanon, asserting that the attacks are intended to leave no home unaffected by “Israeli” aggression.
Qassem said that the command structure of Hezbollah remains intact, and operations are proceeding as planned, with leadership prepared to follow alternative strategies if necessary.
Qassem stressed that Hezbollah’s operations are ongoing at the same pace, if not more intense, with recent strikes targeting Ma’ale Adumim and Haifa.
“The path and vision cultivated by Nasrallah will continue, and Hezbollah remains steadfast in its goals,” Qassem said.
He further warned that Hezbollah is ready for any scenario, including the possibility of engaging with “Israel” on the ground should they attempt an incursion, asserting that Hezbollah’s fighters are fully prepared for ground combat.
"These great people, who have stood firm during difficult times, are standing strong again, and we will win as we did against the Israeli enemy in 2006," Qassem declared.
Qassem also spoke about Hezbollah’s organizational structure, emphasizing that the party has prepared deputies and reserves ready to step in when any leader is incapacitated.
"We follow a clear command and control structure, with alternatives in place for each leader, and we will select a new Secretary-General as soon as possible."
He reassured that the process for choosing Nasrallah's successor will be straightforward and efficient, saying it will be done at the "earlier opportunity."
"The decision is easy and clear because we are united as one," Qassem stated.
Finally, Qassem extended his gratitude to all Lebanese people, regardless of sect, for their solidarity, saying, "This unity is the cornerstone of Lebanon's pride."
Details of Nasrallah's funeral have not yet been officially announced.
