Pope Francis condemns Israeli Occupation airstrikes in Lebanon
Pope Francis expressed strong condemnation of the Israeli Occupation airstrikes in Lebanon during a flight back to Rome from Belgium on Sunday, emphasizing the need for military actions to adhere to moral standards.
During an in-flight press conference, the Pope remarked that countries must avoid excessive military force, stating, “Even in war there is a morality to safeguard.”
His comments come in the wake of strikes that reportedly resulted in the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and several non-combatants.
“Defence must always be proportionate to the attack,” he emphasized, warning against actions that escalate to domination and breach moral boundaries.
Last week, Pope Francis described the Israeli Occupation airstrikes in Lebanon as “unacceptable” and called upon the international community to take urgent measures to stop the violence.
He has also expressed his sorrow over the deaths of Palestinian children resulting from the Israeli Occupation strikes in Gaza during a press conference on September 28.
