Tax authorities crack down on illegal cigarette price hikes
The Income and Sales Tax Department announced that its Tax Evasion Combat Directorate uncovered several shops and businesses that have raised cigarette prices by more than JD 0.10, breaching Regulation No. 62 of 2024.
In a statement issued to Roya on Wednesday, the department confirmed that legal action would be pursued against those found in violation of the regulation.
Earlier this week, on Tuesday, the department directed cigarette manufacturers to adhere strictly to Regulation No. 62 of 2024. The regulation mandates that the price increase for each pack of cigarettes be capped at JD 0.10.
Additionally, manufacturers were instructed to communicate this requirement to their distribution companies and agents to prevent any excess price hikes.
