The Income and Sales Tax Department (ISTD) has directed cigarette manufacturers to fully comply with the provisions of the amended Special Tax Regulation No. 62 of 2024, including the increase in cigarette pack prices.

According to a statement from the department, the price of cigarette packs will rise by 100 fils (10 piasters) per pack.

The department also instructed these companies to inform their distributors and agencies to strictly adhere to this 100-fils increase per pack, noting that the minimum price for a cigarette pack is now 1,700 fils (JD 1.7).

A WhatsApp number has been provided by the Income and Sales Tax Department for citizens to report any store charging more than the 10-piastre price increase for cigarettes.

Citizens can submit complaints via WhatsApp at the following number: 062222130.

The cabinet of Prime Minister Khasawneh approved the amended Special Tax Regulation for 2024 last Thursday, which included changes to the tax on cigarettes, in line with the national strategy to combat tobacco use in all its forms.

This amendment aims to curb the rapid spread of electronic smoking devices, especially among children, and to address the significant tax disparities between traditional cigarettes and their alternatives.
