Preliminary results announced for Amman's first district in 2024 elections

Independent Election Commission (IEC) has announced the preliminary vote tally for local lists in the First Electoral District of the capital, Amman.

In related news, several election committees across Jordan have released the preliminary results of the 2024 parliamentary elections for the 20th House of Representatives.

The IEC’s platform published the winners for the local district seats in Amman’s First District, where the following candidates secured their places through direct competition:

  • Ahmad Al-Raqab from the "Islamic Action Front" list, with 17,041 votes.
  • Mohammad Yahya Al-Maharmeh from the "Himma" list, with 10,522 votes.
  • Abdulrahman Al-Awaisheh from the "Al-Aqsa Al-Sharif" list, with 7,566 votes.
  • Ahmad Al-Hmeisat from the "Al-Ahd" list, with 6,308 votes.
  • Atallah Al-Hunaity from the "Amman" list, with 6,521 votes.
  • Bayan Fakhri Abdullah from the "Islamic Action Front" list won the women’s quota seat with 18,774 votes.

The IEC launched a special platform to publish election results in real-time, starting after the closing of the polls at 7 PM, following the beginning of the vote counting process.

IEC Chairman Musa Maaytah stated that approximately 515,000 expatriates were unable to vote, bringing the effective participation rate to 36 percent. A total of 1,638,351 citizens cast their votes in the 2024 elections.

Below are the required vote thresholds for winning seats in the general and local districts, varying by the number of voters in each district:

  • General district threshold: 40,817 votes
  • Amman First District: 8,410 votes
  • Amman Second District: 10,907 votes
  • Amman Third District: 7,353 votes
  • Irbid First District: 13,782 votes
  • Irbid Second District: 9,684 votes
  • Jerash: 4,980 votes
  • Madaba: 4,193 votes
  • Aqaba: 2,145 votes
  • Ajloun: 4,325 votes
  • Northern Badia: 4,211 votes
  • Mafraq: 4,040 votes
  • Balqa: 10,035 votes
  • Karak: 8,161 votes
  • Central Badia: 2,715 votes
  • Zarqa: 11,007 votes
  • Ma’an: 2,420 votes
  • Tafilah: 2,374 votes
  • Southern Badia: 3,696 votes.
