Fire kills at least 17 students in Kenya
Kenyan police announced on Friday that at least 17 students have died in a fire at a school dormitory in central Kenya.
The incident occurred at Hillside Indarasha Academy in Nyeri County, where the blaze engulfed the dormitory while the students were sleeping.
Police spokesperson Rescilla Onyango reported that the fire began around midnight, resulting in the deaths of 17 students, with others being hospitalized for severe injuries.
Onyango noted that the bodies recovered from the scene were badly charred, making identification difficult. Additionally, 16 other individuals sustained serious injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital.
Search and rescue efforts are ongoing, with more bodies expected to be found once the site is fully examined. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and no potential causes have been determined yet.
