Tawjihi overhaul: Ministry of Education launches revised structure
The Ministry of Education will implement a new system for the General Secondary Education Examination (Tawjihi) starting the academic 2024-2025 year. The new system will apply to students born in 2008 and later.
The new Tawjihi system will be spread over two years, with students taking exams in phases during the 11th and 12th grades.
- Reducing pressure -
The new Tawjihi system will cover both academic and vocational tracks, according to the Ministry of Education, and aims to reduce pressure on students and better organize the educational process.
The ministry confirmed that this national system was developed after comprehensive studies and global experiences.
The exams will be divided into two phases:
Phase one: Students will choose their academic or vocational track (BTEC) in the 9th grade.
In the 11th grade, they will study specific subjects such as mathematics, physics, and chemistry, and will take school exams.
At the end of the 11th grade, students will take ministerial exams in selected subjects to lighten their load.
Phase two: If students pass the 11th grade, they will continue to the 12th grade to complete their studies.
The 11th-grade average will account for 30 percent of the overall grade, while the 12th-grade average will account for 70 percent.
- Available specializations -
The new system includes a wide range of academic and vocational specializations that will determine students' university futures.
These include fields such as engineering, medical sciences, technology, languages, business, and law.
- Retake opportunities -
The Ministry of Education stated that students who do not pass the 11th-grade school exams will have the opportunity to retake the subjects in the 12th grade.
This system provides greater flexibility and aims to reduce psychological pressure and improve academic performance.
