Jordan condemns “Israel” revoking diplomatic status of Norwegian envoys
Jordan condemned “Israel's” decision to revoke the diplomatic status of Norwegian diplomats working at the Norwegian Representative Office in the occupied Palestinian territories in Ramallah.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Dr. Sufyan Qudah emphasized that this unprecedented move is part of the provocative measures taken by the “Israeli” government against those who recognize the State of Palestine and stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights.
Ambassador Qudah stressed that Tel Aviv's reactions to European countries' decisions to recognize the State of Palestine are inconsistent with international law and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
Yesterday, “Israel” revoked the diplomatic status of eight Norwegian diplomats serving in the occupied Palestinian territories. This decision follows Norway's recognition of Palestinian statehood and its support for an International Criminal Court (ICC) investigation into alleged “Israeli” war crimes and crimes against humanity, according to “Israeli” Foreign Minister Israel Katz.
The Norwegian ambassador was informed on Thursday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem that the diplomats' accreditation would be revoked in seven days and their visas annulled in three months.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide criticized the move as an extreme action that would hinder Norway's ability to assist the Palestinian population and warned it could have repercussions for relations with “Israel”.
The US Department of State deemed the action counterproductive, noting that Norway has historically played a constructive role in promoting cooperation between “Israel” and the Palestinian Authority. Spokesman Matthew Miller expressed concerns that the decision undermines Norwegian efforts to foster dialogue and collaboration.
