Jordan considers establishing a national maritime transport company
Minister of Transport Wesam Tahtamouni announced that the ministry is undertaking a comprehensive market survey to assess the feasibility and demand for establishing a national maritime transport company.
Tahtamouni revealed at the Government Communication Forum that the ministry is in the process of finalizing the economic feasibility studies for the proposed maritime company.
In light of the recent crisis in the Red Sea, Tahtamouni emphasized that the ministry is collaborating with the private sector to identify alternative maritime routes to and from Aqaba.
Additionally, the Minister highlighted the ministry's support for the Arab Bridge Maritime Company. This support aims to provide an alternative shipping route for exports via Egyptian Mediterranean ports.
The ministry is also assisting the private sector in managing the increased demand for ship arrivals at Aqaba Port.
Recent statistics from the Aqaba container port indicate a positive trend in shipping activity.
The number of containers arriving and departing has shown improvement, with a significant reduction in the decline rate.
The decrease in the decline rate started at 46.5 percent in January 2024 and has progressively narrowed to 10.9 percent by June 2024, compared to the same period in 2023.
