Iranian media revealed new details on Wednesday morning about the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas' political bureau, in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

The Iranian News Agency confirmed that the assassination occurred at 2:00 AM on Wednesday, while Haniyeh was staying at a veterans' residence in Tehran.

The agency added that the assassination was carried out by a missile launched from one country to another, not from within Iran.

Iranian media reported that Haniyeh was staying in a building in northern Tehran, which serves as a guesthouse for high-profile visitors and is under the protection of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

The reports also mentioned that Ziyad Al-Nakhalah, the Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad Movement, was present on a different floor of the same building.

Fars News Agency reported that Haniyeh’s residence in Tehran was hit by an airborne projectile.

In response to the incident, Haniyeh's advisor, Taher Al-Nunu, stated that "the operation was a direct targeting and a premeditated assassination, and the Iranian authorities will reveal the details of the incident soon."

Later, Hamas confirmed the news of Haniyeh's assassination on Wednesday morning at his residence in Tehran, where he had attended the inauguration of Iran's new president.

In a separate statement, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that it is studying the details of the incident and will release the results of the investigation later.

The Iranian News Agency indicated that Ismail Haniyeh and his personal guard were martyred following an attack on their residence.

Haniyeh arrived in Tehran on Tuesday to attend the inauguration of Iran’s new president, Masoud Bezhkishian.
