Reports: Ismail Haniyeh assassinated by missile launched from outside Iran

The Israel Broadcasting Authority (IBA) reported on Wednesday that Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas' political bureau, was assassinated by a missile launched from outside Iran. 

Iranian media have corroborated the report, confirming that the assassination involved a missile launched from one country to another, rather than from within Iran.

Tasnim News Agency revealed that the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee will convene to discuss the details of Haniyeh’s assassination. 

The agency also reported that an investigation is ongoing, with results expected to be disclosed soon.

Hamas confirmed early Wednesday that Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Tehran, the capital of Iran. 

Haniyeh and one of his personal guards were martyred following an attack on their residence in Tehran, according to Iranian sources.

In a related statement, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced, "We are examining the details of Haniyeh’s martyrdom in Tehran."

Haniyeh had arrived in Tehran on Tuesday to attend the inauguration of Iran’s new president, Masoud Bezhkishian, at the Iranian Parliament. 

During his visit, Haniyeh met with Bezhkishian and Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
