Over 500 trucks stalled on Jordan’s side following new Syrian customs rules
The President of the Association Owners of Clearance & Transport Companies, Deif Allah Abu Aqoula, announced the cessation of operations in the Jordanian-Syrian Joint Free Zone following new procedures implemented by Syrian customs two days ago.
Abu Aqoula explained that the Syrian authorities prohibited the organization of any documentation for trucks heading to Syria without the approval of the Syrian Customs Authority.
This new requirement caused significant disruption in the movement of trucks and overall operations, as the approval process now takes several days.
The new procedures resulted in more than 500 trucks on the Jordanian side being stalled, leading to considerable losses due to the delay in transporting goods.
Before the implementation of the new rules, the daily average of trucks crossing the border ranged between 100 and 120. However, since the new Syrian decision was issued, no trucks have been able to cross.
Abu Aqoula urged the Jordanian government to intervene with Syrian authorities to facilitate the flow of goods and resolve the ongoing disruption.
