Four gas stations shut down for tampering
The Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) announced on Monday the closure of four gas stations and the referral of five others and four tankers to the public prosecutor.
Additionally, five commercial establishments received warnings for manipulating the quantities of pre-packaged items during the first half of this year – the statement added.
JSMO’s teams verified 10,000 gas pumps and approximately 4,700 household gas cylinders as part of its efforts to ensure the accuracy of fuel meters and cylinder weights.
The organization confirmed that it tested over 600 samples during surprise and routine inspections of gas stations to ensure compliance with Jordanian technical standards.
It also examined around 540 samples from ships arriving at the Aqaba port to ensure that petroleum derivatives met the standard specifications before allowing them to dock and unload their cargo.
JSMO verified 1,450 platform scales, and the number of pre-packaged items checked reached 1,100. Additionally, the organization inspected 9,550 taxi meters and received 229 complaints regarding fuel stations, tankers, weights, scales, and measuring tools.
JSMO urged citizens to report any complaints about the accuracy of measurement devices such as fuel pump meters, scales, or taxi meters through the national phone and WhatsApp complaints number 065301243, its social media pages, the organization's website, and the "Bekhedmetkom" platform.
