STATISTICS - Indecent assault tops list of most common crimes in Jordan

Statistics released by the Public Security Directorate in Jordan for the period from 2019 to 2023 reveals a decline in the number of crimes against public morals and decency.

According to an analysis of the official data, 1,312 such crimes were recorded in 2023, compared to 1,445 in 2022, 1,302 in 2021, 1,202 in 2020, and 1,378 in 2019. The analysis highlights a decrease in these types of crimes in 2020.

The nature of these crimes varied, including kidnapping, indecent assault, prostitution, adultery, and abortion.

The data showed that 2023 witnessed 931 recorded cases of indecent assault, making it the most common crime against public morals and decency in Jordan.

Kidnapping was the second most frequent crime with 151 cases, followed by adultery with 144 cases, prostitution with 64 cases, and abortion with 22 cases, according to the 2023 data from the Public Security Directorate.

Overall, the number of crimes committed in 2023 saw a slight decrease of 0.48 percent compared to 2022, with a total of 22,748 security cases recorded across various types of crimes.
