Copa America 2024 final marred by clashes in Miami
The Copa America final between Argentina and Colombia was marred by disruptions that led to its postponement at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
The chaos ensued as clashes erupted between security forces and a group of fans attempting to enter the venue without tickets.
TYC SPORTS cited incidents of fans fainting and unauthorized attempts to breach stadium gates as reasons for the delay.
Argentina eventually secured their 16th Copa America title on Monday with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Colombia. Lautaro Martinez, coming off the bench, scored the decisive goal in the 112th minute with a powerful strike.
This victory not only secured Argentina's 16th title in 30 final appearances but also broke their tie with Uruguay for the most Copa America titles. Uruguay, meanwhile, clinched third place by defeating Canada 4-3 in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw in regular time on Saturday.
The match's postponement underscored ongoing challenges around fan behavior and security at major sporting events, highlighting the tense atmosphere that sometimes accompanies high-stakes competitions like the Copa America.
