On Friday, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the International Court of Justice announced that Spain has officially requested to join South Africa's case against the Israeli Occupation, concerning allegations of genocide.

The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that their intervention is grounded in the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide of 1948, specifically referencing Article 63 of the Court’s Statute.

Jordan, Colombia, Mexico, and Palestine have already participated in the case, with Ireland, Belgium, and Chile also planning to participate.

Spain emphasized that its aim is to help restore peace in Gaza and the Middle East, end the war, and promote a two-state solution for "peaceful coexistence between Palestinians and Israelis."

On Dec. 29, 2023, South Africa filed the case against Israeli Occupation at the International Court of Justice for violating the 1948 Genocide Convention.

Additionally, on May 28, Spain, Norway, and Ireland officially recognized the State of Palestine and established full diplomatic relations with it. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez described this recognition as "a matter of historical justice."

As of Friday, the ongoing Israeli Occupation aggression on Gaza had resulted in over 124,000 casualties and injuries, predominantly among children and women, alongside more than 10,000 missing persons, widespread destruction, and famine claiming the lives of dozens of children.

Israeli Occupation continues its military operations despite two UN Security Council resolutions calling for an immediate halt to the war and orders from the International Court of Justice to cease the invasion of Rafah and improve humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip.
