The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) has documented numerous instances of mistreatment of Palestinians held in detention in Gaza by the Israeli Occupation since the beginning of the war on October 7, as reported by The New York Times.

UNRWA interviewed over 100 of the 1,002 Palestinian detainees who were returned to Gaza last month. The detainees recounted experiencing physical abuse, theft, forced nudity, denial of fundamental rights such as access to legal representation and medical assistance, and instances of sexual abuse.

UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini stated that the ill treatment and abuse suffered by Palestinian detainees included threats of electrocution, being photographed naked, sleep deprivation, and intimidation by dogs.

"We have seen these individuals returning from detention, some for a few weeks, some for a few months, and the majority of them return completely traumatized by the ordeal they endured," Lazzarini commented.

He mentioned that a number of individuals had been debriefed about their experiences, and an internal report had been compiled and shared with rights groups specializing in detention.
