Jordanians commemorate the anniversary of the Arabization of the Jordanian Army Command, which falls on Friday, the first of March.

On February 29, 1956, His Late His Majesty King Hussein bin Talal arrived at the Royal Court clad and he met with the Chief of Staff to discuss the Arabization of the Jordanian Arab Army leadership. General Glubb's response hinted at the complexity of the matter.

General Glubb commanded the Arab Legion, an army of Arab tribesmen in Transjordan and its successor state, Jordan.

The morning of Thursday, March 1, 1956, saw King Hussein issuing a directive to convene a cabinet session under his chairmanship. Decree No. (198) was promptly enacted, signaling the end of General Glubb's tenure as Chief of Staff.

Brigadier Radi Hassan Anab, a distinguished member of the Jordanian Arab Army, was appointed as his successor, marking the first time a Jordanian assumed leadership after General Glubb's removal.

On Friday morning, March 2, 1956, Jordanian radio broadcasted news of King Hussein's decisive action. His brief speech conveyed the rationale behind the changes. King Hussein commended the army's dedication and resilience, drawing from the nation's history of sacrifice and righteousness.

This historic move underscored Jordan's commitment to indigenous leadership and sovereignty.
