Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply, Youssef Al-Shamali, has decided to refer the three mobile telecommunications companies to the Attorney General of Jordan for violating the provisions of Article (5/A/1) of Competition Law No. 33 of the year 2004 and its amendments.

According to a statement from the ministry received by "Roya" Sunday, this decision comes in light of their implicit agreement to raise offer subscription prices and impose fees for cash subscription services offered at these companies’ stores.

Al-Shamali emphasized that the practices of the three telecommunications companies undermine competition, depriving subscribers of the freedom to switch from one company to another in search of competitive benefits. The Competition Law prohibits any practices, alliances, or agreements, explicit or implicit, that disrupt or limit competition, especially those concerning setting the prices for goods or service fees, or sales conditions, and the like.

The minister stated that the companies were given an opportunity to rectify the situation by discontinuing these practices. However, due to the lack of cooperation from the companies, it has been decided to take legal actions stipulated in the Competition Law by referring the case to the Attorney General.
