European diplomats have confirmed ongoing efforts to establish Jordan as a “complementary aid hub” for coordinating and delivering aid to the war-torn Gaza Strip via the West Bank. The aid is planned to be transported through the West Bank and from there via Karm bin Salem Crossing, a crucial cargo route that saw up to 500 trucks passing through daily until Oct. 7. The crossing is now technically equipped for cargo, where thorough inspections are conducted.

One European diplomat emphasized the priority of expediting aid delivery through this idle crossing now.

For his part, French Ambassador Alexis Le Cour Grandmaison confirmed to Roya that his country has allocated EUR 400,000 in the form of ten ambulances to be sent to Jordanian field hospitals in Gaza and Khan Younis.

Prior to this, EUR 500,000 had been provided in the form of medical supplies and medicines through the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO) and the Royal Medical Services.

This move comes as Jordan has demonstrated efficiency in providing essential assistance, particularly to its two field hospitals in Gaza - since 2009- and Khan Younis.

Grandmaison noted that a meeting held on Nov. 9 aimed to coordinate and streamline the necessary procedures for swift and effective assistance.

Amid the ongoing aggression in Gaza, Jordan, along with several other nations, is prioritizing calls for a complete ceasefire in Gaza and a swift relief lifeline for 2.2 million Gazans, two-thirds of them were forcefully displaced to the south of Gaza under heavy Israeli bombardment. Decision-makers and leaders of international organizations are advocating for the entry of essential assistance, currently hindered and stranded at the Rafah Border Crossing. It's worth noting that Rafah is considered unsafe, with Gazans emphasizing the absence of “safe zones” in the Strip.

-King holds international emergency meeting to coordinate humanitarian response-

On November 30, His Majesty held a meeting in Amman on “Coordinating Gaza Emergency Relief,” with the participation of representatives of international organizations and UN agencies, as well as Arab and foreign countries.

At the meeting, King Abdullah said humanitarian aid currently delivered to Gaza does not cover relief needs on the ground. His Majesty called for maintaining coordination between all international stakeholders to bridge gaps, avoid the duplication of efforts, and identify the challenges in the Strip, urging participants to work collectively to deliver aid within sustainable methods that build on current efforts.

For their part, participants commended Jordan’s efforts, under the King’s leadership, in bringing together all the concerned stakeholders to coordinate the humanitarian response in Gaza.
