Jordan consumer prices rises, November CPI data reveals

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 2.13 percent from the beginning 2023 until the end of November, reaching 108.95 compared to 106.68 for the same period last year.

When comparing the CPI on year until November with the same period in 2022, the index for "Fuel and energy" increased by 6.76 percent, "Dairy Products and Eggs" by 5.95 percent, "Culture and Entertainment" by 4.89 percent, "Personal Items" by 4.80 percent, and "Furniture, Carpets, and Bedding" by 4.47 percent.

According to the monthly report issued Monday by the Central Bureau of Statistics, the CPI for November 2023 increased by 1.27 percent, reaching 109.56 compared to 108.19 for November 2022.

The report stated that commodity groups to have contributed for this increase are: "Personal Luggage" by 7.04 percent, "Tobacco and Cigarettes" by 5.22 percent, "Rentals" by 3.25 percent, "Dairy Products and Eggs" by 3.21 percent, and "Grain group" by 2.53 percent.

On the other hand, the CPI of the basket of "Vegetables, Dry and Canned Legumes" decreased by 3.34 percent, "Fuel and Energy" by 2.96 percent, "Home Textiles" by 1.42 percent, and "Culture and Entertainment" by 1.03 percent.

The report also noted that the CPI for November 2023 decreased by 0.20 percent, reaching 109.56 compared to 109.78 for October 2023.

Among the commodity groups contributing to the decline of CPI for November 2023 compared to October 2023 are "Vegetables, Dry and Canned Legumes" by 6.51 percent, "Fruits and Nuts" by 4.24 percent, "Meat and Poultry" by 1.26 percent, "Culture and Entertainment" by 0.58 percent, and "Tea, Coffee, and Cocoa" by 0.56 percent.
