The Public Security Directorate (PSD) spokesperson stated that personnel in the Zarqa Governorate Police Directorate responded and dealt with two fires at the entrance of a school and a place of worship in Zarqa, there were no significant injuries and damage from the fire was limited to the properties itself.

The PSD, in a statement received by Roya, stated that after thorough investigations, the arsonist was identified and arrested. It was later revealed that the offender is suffering from mental illness.

He was later transferred to the National Center For Psychiatry to evaluate his psychological condition to later refer his medical reports to the court.

The Latin Patriarchate Church Office issued a statement regarding the incident: “In the early hours of Wednesday morning, 11/15/2023, a person attacked and vandalized property in the monastery and school of the Latin Patriarchate in south Zarqa. The PSD immediately responded to the scene of the incident, where the appropriate measures were taken. The Latin Patriarchate Church Office confirms that this cowardly act is only an individual act, and will be dealt with on this basis and the appropriate legal measures will be taken.”
