'Breaking Bad' cast strikes on Hollywood picket line
"Breaking Bad" actors Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul and "Better Call Saul" producer Peter Gould show support to Hollywood strikers on one of the picket lines.
Actor Bryan Cranston said: "I wanted to get and see my old friends, the creative teams from 'Better Call Saul' and 'Breaking Bad.' We're a family and we wanted to express our support for our larger family of brothers and sisters within the WGA (Writers Guild of America, ndlr) and the Screen Actors Guild. And that's why we're out here."
"If we don't clarify what these new rules are, what this new contract will be, it could mean the end of the Writers Guild, it could mean the end of the Screen Actors Guild. And we just can't let that happen," he explained.
Cranston added: "Never before has there been a line in a contract that reads, 'this production must be written by a human being, must be acted by a human being.' This is unbelievable. That in itself shows you that we are in a different world. The paradigm has shifted."
Actor Aaron Paul said: "We're in this together, obviously. And, you know, Sony, we're walking around Sony right now who employed me for many, many, many years, multiple times, on 'Breaking Bad' and 'Better Call Saul,' so it's nice that our families have joined forces in this together. We're fighting the good fight together."
Breaking Bad show runner Peter Gould and "Better Call Saul" producer said: "I'm the crazy optimist, you know, I think the studios and we are in the same business. We want to make entertainment, we want to entertain the world. It's a good business, it's a business that is very profitable. And I think if the studios want to be in it, we want to be in it. I think there's a mutuality of interest there."
