During a meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace, King Abdullah II instructed the government to assess a proposed legislation aimed at ensuring the right to access personal data.

This meeting involved discussions with the Board of Trustees of the National Center for Human Rights and the President of the Journalists Syndicate.

The proposed 2023 Personal Data Law permits government agencies to process personal data with adherence to specific rules. While consent is usually required, Article 6 outlines cases where government bodies can process data without prior approval:

  • Public authorities can process data when fulfilling legal duties.
  • Medical professionals can process data for medical reasons.
  • Data processing is allowed to protect life or interests.
  • Law enforcement can process data for crime-related purposes.
  • Data processing required by existing laws.
  • Data can be used for scientific research, excluding decisions about individuals.
  • Data processing for statistics, security, or public interest.
  • Processing of publicly accessible individual data.
